Marsannay Le Clos 2015 Rene Bouvier, Burgundy
Barrel aged for 18 months - acacia flowers, subtle vanilla and rich in the mouth with a light balanced minerality
17 hectares under vine in and around Gevrey and Marsannay. He has recently moved to new state of the art cellars just north of Gevrey and the quality of his wines his now absolute top division.
Vines average 50 years old. Yields are extremely low and never exceed 30 hl/ha and the domaine is new registered organic. Everything is hand picked. Fermentation of the reds involves a long, cold maceration and a gentle extraction - what Bernard calls an infusion. About one third new barrels are used. They are bottled without fining or filtration and are fine, pure, concentrated and subtle. His Marsannay Blanc Le Clos is also a delicious revelation and is now biodynamic.
The most accommodating vigneron ever - on a visit and running several hours late an invitation to taste whilst interrupting his evening meal followed up by a monumental tasting of real quality wines makes these wines one very close to our hearts.
