Domaine de la Cote de l'Ange - Chateauneuf du Pape, Southern Rhône

Domaine de la Côte de l’Ange is an up and coming estate under the guidance of Jean-Claude Mestre and Yannick Gaspari, who have won praise for their wines- they produce a traditional style of Chateauneuf du Pape with the focus on the flavours of the region – liquorice, lavender and broom intermixed with wild fruits and berries, with hints of roasted meats and smoke.

'The 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape checks in as a blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 15% Mourvedre that’s aged in a combination of foudre and tronconique tanks. It has classic and old-school notes of ground pepper, saddle leather, garrigue and bouquet garni to go with a medium-bodied, tight, firm and tannic feel on the palate. I like the ripeness here though, and it has solid concentration and mid-palate density. Give it 3-4 years in the cellar and enjoy it through 2027. This traditionally run estate is managed by Yannick and Corinne Gasparri -their 2012s are impressive.'
