Sassicaia Tenuta San Guido 2014

Sassicaia 2014 is supple more rounded style, in contrast to 2013, which will allow it be approachable relatively early. However with 5-8 years in the bottle it will develop further into a sensational wine and one that will sit alongside many of this great winery’s previous successes. It’s a Sassicaia that you will want to drink and enjoy over the next decade.

The Sassicaia estate at Bolgheri, South West Tuscany is owned by Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, his wife's family had owned land there since 1800 and the huge success is due to the vision, energy and drive of proprietor Mario Incisa della Rocchetta.

The Super Tuscan Pioneer

The term "Super Tuscan" conjures up words like creativity, freedom, spirit, and defiance-no one considered making a wine crafted along Bordeaux style on Italian soil, much less in a region not yet established viticulturally. The general thought was that vineyards exposed to the sea winds and salty air of Bolgheri would produce poor results. More importantly, the viticultural regulations set forth by the DOC and DOCG limited creativity, expression, and restricted most winemakers.

However in 1944 Mario Incisa della Rochetta, along with guidance from Giacomo Tachis (Piero Antinori's winemaker) had the vision and  creativity to plant a small vineyard devoted to Cabernet Sauvignon in the Bolgheri Hills. This vineyard and the wines produced here created the Super Tuscan movement.

The wines of Sassicaia combine intense notes of cassis and cedary elegance, with extraordinary power and length and are rightly placed as one of the finest wines produced.
