Description

Calendal, is first and foremost a story of friendship and love. Domaine Calendal is the personal project of famed Rhone winemaking consultant Philippe Cambie and his life long friend and business partner Gilles Ferran of Domaine des Escaravailles, Rasteau.

In early 2006, they bought a tiny estate of 1 ½ hectare in Plan de Dieu, which was expanded in 2008 to 4,50 hectare (11 acres). Using agricultural methods that are totally respectful of both the environment and the soil. The plots are 50% old Mourvedre and 50% very old Grenache trained in bush vines and entirely tilled.

The vinification takes place in two small cylindrical tanks of 50 hectoliters with manual punch-downs in order to respect the grapes as much as possible.

Production is only14,000 bottles and some magnums.

Very deep dark red colour with black tinged edges and a dark red hue. Pronounced aromas of ripe black raspberries, liquorice and hints of black cherries arise from the glass followed by subtle dried herb notes, light incense and spice. Medium to full bodied, juicy, rich ripe black raspberry and black cherry flavours are to the fore over some liquorice, dried herb infusions, incense, faint scorched earth and spice.

Round opulent mouthfeel with velvety tannins. Excellent power and concentration with a long finish of ripe black cherries, black raspberries, liquorice, dried herbs and spicy
