Description

Domaine des Escaravailles has long been one of our favourite producers from the Southern Rhone, which offers real quality at a very affordable price - Gilles Ferran studied in oenology in Montpellier and then over the next ten years he worked in the winery alongside his father, Daniel. Gilles took over the winery in 1999 from his father, at which time he started bottling his first wine, the Rasteau “La Ponce”.

The name of the winery comes from the nickname given by the people of Rasteau to the black penitent monks of the 17th century, who wore long black coats and owned the property at the time. In Occitan language ‘Escaravaille’ means beetle and this resemblance gave of the wearing of the black coats and cowls gave the name to the Domaine.
